It was ether, by about six weeks.

On daily prices, ether peaked on 23 August 2025 at about $4,829. Bitcoin didn't top out until 7 October, at about $124,774, 45 days later.

Bitcoin and ether prices since June 2025: ether peaked on 23 August 2025, bitcoin on 7 October 2025

Why the order matters

Ether had run much harder. From mid-June 2025 to its peak it rose about 90%, while bitcoin rose about 18% to its own. The coin that climbed faster turned first, and it fell further: by the end of June 2026 ether had lost about two-thirds of its value and bitcoin about half.

They found the bottom together, two days apart, on 28 and 30 June. Since then the two lines have moved almost as one. Bitcoin is $83,552 this morning and ether $2,515, both well under those 2025 peaks.

Another one next Wednesday.
