This notice explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on thecrossover.io (the "Site"), the home of The Crossover and The Crossover Pro. The Site is published by Wowise (WOWISE - FZCO), a free zone company incorporated in Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("Wowise", "we", "us"). This notice should be read together with our Privacy Policy at thecrossover.io/privacy, which explains more generally how we handle personal data.
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit. They let the site recognize your device, remember your settings and choices, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is being used. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (session cookies); others stay on your device for a set period (persistent cookies).
In this notice, "cookies" also covers similar technologies, such as local storage and scripts, that are set on your device when you visit the Site and do comparable jobs in slightly different ways. The tracking pixels in our emails are not Site cookies and are not governed by this notice; they are covered separately in section 3.
The Site is built and hosted on Beehiiv, the newsletter platform we publish through. The cookies set when you visit the Site are set by Beehiiv, which operates the Site, and, when you buy a subscription, by Stripe, which processes the payment at checkout. They fall into these categories:

We do not currently use advertising or marketing cookies, and we do not run third party advertising pixels (such as the Meta pixel) on the Site. If that changes, we will update this notice first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent through the cookie banner before any such cookie or pixel is set.
Our emails contain a small tracking pixel and tracked links that measure whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. This happens in your email app, not through cookies on the Site, so it is not governed by this notice. How email tracking works, the legal basis we rely on, and how to prevent it are described in our Privacy Policy at thecrossover.io/privacy, in the section on email tracking.
Where the law requires consent (including in the UK, EU and EEA), non-essential cookies are only set after you accept them through the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Until you choose, only strictly necessary cookies run. If you decline, the Site still works and you can still read The Crossover; we simply will not set analytics cookies on your device.
You can change your mind at any time. Where a cookie preferences link is shown on the Site, use it to reopen the cookie settings and adjust your choices. You can also clear cookies in your browser, which removes any cookies already on your device and makes the banner appear again on your next visit so you can choose afresh. Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies generally (see section 5). Withdrawing consent takes effect from that point on; it does not affect the lawfulness of anything done while your consent was in place.
Independently of our banner, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. You can usually set your browser to refuse all cookies, refuse third party cookies only, or warn you before a cookie is set, and you can clear cookies that are already stored. Consult the help pages for your browser (for example Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge) for step by step instructions, and remember to repeat your settings on each browser and device you use.
One caution: if you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the Site will stop working. In particular, you may not be able to sign in, and The Crossover Pro subscribers may not be recognized at the paywall.
We may update this notice from time to time, for example if Beehiiv changes the cookies it sets or if we introduce a new tool. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page. If a change involves new non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it before they are set.
