| The biggest banks are wiring up crypto’s rails and pulling money out of its funds in the same week, so today is about which signal you believe. |
JPMorgan brings its deposit token to a public chain

JPMorgan is moving JPM Coin, the digital dollar it uses to settle money for its clients, onto Base, a public chain anyone can use. For years the biggest bank in America kept its blockchain work walled off on private software only approved clients could touch. Putting a bank deposit token on an open chain is a different thing. It means a balance at JPMorgan can move in the same place a stablecoin does, around the clock, without waiting for the wires to open in the morning.
The whole week looked like this. The clearing house that sits behind almost every US stock trade began a test that puts 25 securities on a blockchain. Three of Japan's largest banks finished a joint trial of a yen stablecoin. Circle, the company behind the USDC dollar coin, switched on a chain of its own built for institutions. The firms that spent years calling these rails a toy are now laying track on them.
Here is the part worth sitting with. While the banks build, investors are pulling cash out of the one crypto product they already sell to the public. The funds that hold Ether for investors lost about $320 million last week, more than any other kind of crypto fund, even as withdrawals from the Bitcoin funds slowed by two thirds. So the same institutions wiring up the plumbing are stepping back from the fund that runs on top of it.
Both can be true at once. The plumbing is a ten-year bet and the fund flows are this month's mood, and this month the mood is careful, with a Fed that looks set to stay tight. For someone holding Ethereum it means the foundation is being poured slowly in the background while near-term demand thins out. Watch which one the price listens to first.
Solana's Alpenglow upgrade goes live on Tuesday
Solana turns on its biggest speed upgrade on Tuesday. The change, called Alpenglow, cuts the time the network needs to finish a transaction from about 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds. In plain terms, the moment a payment goes from "probably done" to "done and cannot be reversed" shrinks from a slow count to a blink.
That matters most for the things people have promised on Solana for two years and struggled to deliver: trading apps, payments, and tokenized shares that need to settle instantly. The value of tokenized stocks changing hands on Solana has already climbed from about $5 billion in the spring quarter to over $7 billion in the summer, and a faster settle is what lets that grow. An upgrade this deep can stumble on day one, so the first day of real traffic is the test, not the announcement.
Two treasury firms bought 1,490 bitcoin on the dip
Two of the public companies that hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets, Strive and the firm once called MicroStrategy, said on Monday they had bought about 1,490 coins between them, after the price slipped briefly below $80,000 last week. It is a small haul next to the mountain Strategy already owns, but the timing is the point. These are the buyers the doubters keep writing off, and they stepped in on weakness instead of waiting for a bounce.
Demand from treasury companies has been one of the few steady sources of buying under Bitcoin all year. It is worth watching precisely because it is also fragile. If these companies' share prices fall below the worth of the coins they hold, the trick that lets them keep raising money and buying more stops working. For now, they are still buying, and that is the quiet counterweight to the funds heading the other way.

Ask Viv
Should I Hold Crypto for the Long Term or Trade It?
When prices move 10, 20 or even 30%, it’s tempting to trade the moves instead of just holding. In this Ask Viv, Viv explains why investing and trading are two very different activities, what each one asks of you, and why trading requires an edge. He also says what he thinks the first question should be for most people new to crypto.

The plumbing goes in over years and the mood turns in days, so keep one eye on each and do not trust either too far.
