It was the Nvidia buyback.
Nvidia added $150 billion to its stock buyback program on Monday, the largest increase on record. Every Solana token in existence was worth about $70.3 billion early on Wednesday, going by CoinGecko’s count. The buyback is a little more than twice the size of the whole network.
Why the question was fair
The two numbers aren’t quite the same kind of thing. A buyback authorization is permission to spend up to that amount over time, not cash already spent, and Solana’s value moves every day. Even so, a gap of more than two to one doesn’t close in a good week.
With Monday’s addition, Nvidia’s buyback program now totals $235 billion, more than three times the value of every Solana token. That’s the scale the biggest US companies now work at, and it’s worth keeping in mind the next time a crypto network is described as huge.
Another one next Wednesday.
