THE BRIEFING
GM. This is The Crossover.
The good news yesterday was all outside crypto, and the bad news was all inside it.
BITCOIN · Desk

The Dow closed above 54,000. Bitcoin barely moved.

The Dow closed above 54,000 on Tuesday for the first time. The Nasdaq added 2.6%. Brent crude fell 5% to below $80 after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said a deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could come within a day or two. July factory activity came in at 55.6%, the best reading since May 2022. Cheaper oil, faster growth, records on the board.

Bitcoin ended the day at $64,031, up 0.87%, which is roughly where it has sat for a month.

Under that flat number, four separate measures of who wants bitcoin went the other way, and they have nothing to do with one another.

American buyers have paid less for it than buyers elsewhere for 78 days running, the longest stretch since the count began. Hashdex is winding up its spot bitcoin fund after raising about $14 million, the first closure in the US ETF group. Trump Media has moved 7,281 coins off its own wallets, and what is left rounds to the exact 4,260 it pledged against notes due in 2028, with roughly $318 million of loss locked in. Strategy sold 1,638 coins in the same week.

Holders sent about 10,000 net coins onto exchanges the day after the Coldcard theft was reported, on a day 200,000 coins moved on-chain.

The story all year has been that crypto is waiting on the Fed, and the Fed is not helping. Jeff Schmid of the Kansas City Fed is the fifth Fed president since last week's meeting to say he wants rates higher. "Given the strength of demand and investment, I do not see the current stance of monetary policy as restrictive."

But the outside world handed crypto a good day and crypto did not take it. Watch the American discount. If it closes this week, the last month reads as timing. If it holds, the problem is nearer home.

STABLECOINS · Desk

Cloudflare gave AI agents wallets with spending limits.

Cloudflare has built stablecoin wallets for AI agents. You hold one account wallet and spin up separate wallets for your agents, each with a spending limit, a list of approved merchants and a cap on any single payment. The agent can then buy an API call or a piece of data without asking you first. Payment runs on x402, a standard Coinbase wrote and then handed to the Linux Foundation.

Glassnode switched the same thing on the same day. Its data catalog now takes x402 payments at five cents a metric, with no account and no API key. An agent holding a few dollars of USDC can buy the numbers behind Glassnode Studio and answer a question with them.

Two companies, one day, the same rails. The amounts are tiny. This is the first time software has been able to pay software without a person in the loop.

ETHEREUM · Desk

Ethereum and Solana both want to burn more.

Ethereum researchers submitted EIP-8361 on Tuesday. It would burn a rising share of validator rewards as more ether is staked, until at about half the supply staked the burn cancels the normal reward and validators earn only from transaction tips and the money made ordering blocks. The authors want to stop ether piling into exchanges, ETFs and liquid staking. Critics say solo stakers get squeezed first. It would phase in over 18 months.

Solana validators are weighing their own version the same week. SGP-0003 would charge transactions by the network resources they use and burn those fees, lifting daily burns from roughly 650 SOL to between 7,500 and 9,000, and would double the rate at which new issuance falls. The chain still creates about 60,000 SOL a day, so this narrows the gap rather than closing it. It has 5.8% of active stake and needs 15% by August 18.

🎲   The Odds
Will WTI Crude Oil (WTI) hit (HIGH) $85 in August? 36%

-41 PT  ·  Bessent said a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could come within a day or two, and crude fell hard on it. The odds of oil touching $85 this month came down 41 points in a week. Cheaper oil is the one thing that would take weight off the Fed.
Will Bitcoin dip to $45,000 by December 31, 2026? 24%

-2 PT  ·  That is about 30% below today's price, and roughly one in four still pays to hold that ticket. A week of poor demand news moved the number by two points.
Will Ethereum reach $2,250 by December 31, 2026? 55%

NEW  ·  Ether is $1,868, so this needs about 20% before New Year. Slightly better than a coin flip on a chain collecting a great deal of institutional plumbing and not much buying.
👁   What to Watch
01 The Senate's last days to move the Clarity Act. The bill would settle which American regulator oversees what in crypto. It passed the House in July 2025 and has sat in the Senate since, and the Senate rises for its break at the end of this week. Polymarket puts a vote before the recess at 29% and the bill being signed this year at 23%, down from 82% in February. Bitwise's Matt Hougan is telling clients a clean failure would beat another delay, because it takes the question off the table and leaves the SEC to write the rules instead.
02 Japan is drawing on a Federal Reserve dollar facility. Tokyo said it would tap a Fed backstop built for the 2020 dollar shortage, so it can raise dollars to defend the yen without selling the US government debt it holds. Scott Bessent wants the Fed to lift the $60 billion cap on how much any one counterparty can borrow. Cheap yen has funded bets all over the world for years. The last time the yen jumped hard, in August 2024, crypto took one of the worst of it.
03 Friday's US jobs numbers. Forecasts sit between 91,000 and 120,000 new jobs after June came in at 57,000. A strong number says the factory data has a working labor market underneath it, and hands the Fed hawks more to argue with. A weak one puts the whole strong-economy read back in question.
📟   The Tape
Bitcoin $64,031, up 0.87%. Ether $1,867.93, up 0.5%. Solana $73.68, up 0.24%. A quiet day inside a quiet month.
Fear & Greed: 25, Extreme Fear, down three points. That is Tuesday's reading and the most recent one published. Nothing since has argued with it.
You can now buy 700 tokenized stocks in your own wallet. Dinari says it is the first to offer US investors more than 700 stocks on-chain, every S&P 500 name included, bought with USDC through Circle. Tokenization spent two years on government bonds and has walked into equities.
Apple pulled Telegram from its App Store. Telegram is the app the TON ecosystem is built around, so a removal is more than a messaging story. Nobody has said yet how long it lasts.
July was the biggest month prediction markets have had. Volume set a record across Kalshi and Polymarket, with Polymarket's US platform up 54% on June while its offshore one fell 26%. A New York court also refused the state's request to shut Kalshi down.
🏆   The Draw
The referral draw is done. Four names came out of it, and the coins are on their way.
1 ETH Cory, USA
1 SOL Rituparna, India
1 SOL Graham, Ireland
1 SOL Peter, USA
Congratulations to the four of you. Thanks to everyone who passed The Crossover on to somebody else.
The Senate has days left to move the Clarity Act, and the money says it will not.
